A matrix is a tool that can be used as a job aid in any number of positions within the criminal justice system. In this assignment, you will work with a matrix that will help you map out different types of research and identify when one or another research design might be useful. You will be able to use the completed matrix throughout the rest of this course as a quick reference when formulating a response for other course assignments.Tasks:Click here to download the Research Planning Matrix. Each of the different research designs is defined for you. To complete the matrix, you must find an example of each type of research design. That is, you must find a journal article that fits into each category. In the Examples column of your matrix, place a web link or a citation in the APA format for each article. After you have located the articles, you must identify the data collection techniques used by each author, the quantitative and qualitative elements of each article, and the chief characteristics of each article. Please note that the first example, survey research, has been completed as an example.
Access the Research Planning Matrix and review the topics to be addressed.
Complete the matrix so that the end product compares the different research designs, data collection techniques, and quantitative and qualitative elements, as well as the chief characteristics of each research design.
Prepare a synthesis statement that outlines the most significant similarities and differences observed among the items shown in the matrix.
You will submit two documents for this assignment: the completed Research Planning Matrix, which will be submitted as a Microsoft Excel worksheet, and a synthesis statement, which will be submitted as a Microsoft Word document.
The example is attached to the assignment.

Assignment 1: Frequent Itemsets Mining and Performance Competition (Programming) Out: 1/31/2018……

Assignment 1: Frequent Itemsets Mining and Performance Competition (Programming)
Out: 1/31/2018
Due: 2/14/2018, 11:59pm
Your task for this assignment is to implement and evaluate the Apriori-based algorithm for frequent itemsets mining.
1. Implement the Apriori algorithm that is originally proposed by Agrawal et al. [AS94b] for frequent itemsets mining. You can also find the pseudocode and its related procedures from the lecture slides and textbook. You are not required but encouraged to use existing or your own optimization techniques for the Apriori algorithm. If you do, explain and discuss the techniques you have used and/or provide the appropriate references in the report.
You can use any programming language that you are familiar with.
The program should be executable with 3 parameters: the name of the input dataset file, the threshold of minimum support count, and the name of the output file (in that order). The minimum support count should be an integer. An itemset is frequent if its support count is larger or equal to this threshold.
The program should output a file that contains all the frequent itemsets together with their support. The output file (sample output) should have the following format: each line contains a single frequent itemset as a list of items separated by whitespace. At the end of the line, its support is printed between a pair of parenthesis. For example: 1 2 3 (5) represents an itemset containing items 1, 2 and 3 with a support count of 5.
2. Test your implementation on the dataset T10I4D100K (.dat, .gz) and measure execution time as well as number of frequent itemsets with various minimum support values. The test dataset is a synthetic dataset that contains 100,000 transactions with an average size of 10 items from a set of 1000 distinct items. Detailed descriptions about the dataset can be found in [AS94b]. You can also try your program with various other frequent itemset mining datasets.
3. Write a brief report in PDF presenting your results on the test dataset and other datasets if you have tried. Explain and discuss, if any, the algorithmic optimizations you have used in your implementation. Discuss the experiences and lessons you have learned from the implementation.
4. You can work as a team of up to two. If you work on your own, you get 5 bonus points. If you work as a team of two, please explain the contribution of each team member in your report.
5. Submission. You (or your partner) will upload two items to Canvas: your PDF report and a zip or tar file. This zip/tar file must contain:your source files (include your name(s) in commented form at the top of all source files),the executable (which takes parameters: input filename, minimum support count, and outputfilename, in that order),a README file explaining how to compile/run your program, and a file named ‘output500.dat’ which is your solution for the dataset T10I4D100K with minimum support count 500 (corresponds to relative support 0.5%).Any deviations from these submission instructions will irritate your overwhelmed TA while he is determining your grade.
Note: Please start early and be warned that an implementation without careful planning or efficient data structures could run for days! There are a few online repositories for frequent pattern mining implementations, most notably FIMI repository. You can study them but you are asked not to copy their implementations for this assignment. Remember that the Honor Code applies, and an automatic plagiarism checker will be used on submissions.
Competition
We will run a competition using a few test datasets and select top three winners that offer the best performance with correct and complete results. For fairness, no multithreading or parallelization should be used for the competition. Prizes include extra late pass, choice of final project presentation date, and starbucks gift certificates! 🙂 You can see a sample of the competition results from a previous offering of the class.

With regard to the relationship between treaties and Australian law,

Part one: International and Comparative Law (15 Marks) Maximum word length is 1500 words
With regard to the relationship between treaties and Australian law, Campbell JA in Samootin v. Shea [2012] NSWCA 378 made the following observation (at [33] citations omitted):
“International treaties that have been ratified by the Australian government do not as such form part of our domestic law or operate as a direct source of individual rights and obligations under that law. “
Explain this statement and give particular examples of treaties ratified by the Australian government which have become part of domestic or municipal law.
Part two: State Responsibility and Environmental Regulation (15 Marks) Maximum word length is 1500 words
Ecks Company was incorporated in State X, but has its headquarters, operating plant, most of its employees, and most of its shareholders in State Y. In 1980, a small branch office of Ecks Co. in State Z hired an industrial spy, Mr. O. O. Seven, to obtain secrets from a large competitor in State Z. The spy was successful. For more than a year he supplied the branch with the competitor’s most important industrial secrets, which the branch in turn passed on to Ecks Co. The competitor was a contractor of State Z, and many of the secrets the spy uncovered related to State Z’s national defense. Unfortunately, Mr. Seven was caught red-handed in 1981. He was arrested and convicted of espionage. In bargaining for a reduced sentence, he agreed to testify against the Ecks Co. and its branch office’s manager.
As a consequence, State Z prosecuted both the Ecks Co. and its branch office’s manager for espionage. The manager was found guilty, fined, and sentenced to a prison term. The Ecks Co. did not hire a lawyer to represent it in court, and it did not appear to answer the charges against it. The court entered a default judgment and confiscated all of the assets of the branch as punishment. Ecks Co. never appeared to appeal this decision to State Z’s appellate courts.
Subsequent efforts by Ecks Co. to set up a new branch in State Z were disallowed. Ecks Co. has long fumed over the loss of its State Z branch and the sentence handed down by the State Z court.
Finally, this year, it was able to persuade State X to bring a suit on its behalf before the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Both State X and State Z have recognized the jurisdiction of the ICJ to resolve this dispute. State X alleges that the Ecks Co. was denied justice.
Are there any objections to the ICJ’s jurisdiction that State Z may be able to raise?

Question: Analyze the Case Study(shown below), and develop the conclusions, recommendations, and implications in a one to two page APA formatted paper. Use this opportunity to apply concepts from the textbook which is Chapter 5 at Greenberg,J.(2011).Behavior in ornizations. Upper Saddle River, NJ:Pearson Education.)
Content of Case Study:
“I’ve brought shame on myself, my family and the profession” were the words of Tim Donaghy, as a federal district judge sentenced him to 15 months behind bars in July 2008. Formally, the charges against him were conspiracy to engage in wire fraud and transmitting betting information through interstate commerce. In plain English, the 41-yera-old Donaghy, a 13-year vetran National Basketball Association (NBA) refree, admitted to taking thousands of dollars in payoffs from a professional gambler in exchange for giving inside tips on games he officiated.
Upon sentencing Donaghy,U.S.District Judge Carol Amon gave him credit for cooperating with the court but explained that a jail term was justified since, “The NBA, the players and the fans relied upon him to perform his job in an honest, reliable and non-conflicted manner.” Instead, she said, he was “compromised by a financial interest in the game he was refereeing.”The contrite Donaghy stood with his arm folded and showed no emotion. When invited to speal, he told the judge,”I’m very sorry for the acts for which I stand before you.”
Although sportwriters and NBA officials roundly criticized Donaghy for hi actions, they also acknowledge the intensely stressful nature of the referee’s job. Living out of a suitcase for over half a year, they log thousands of miles on the road during the season and face extreme pressure. Not only do they to make split-second decisions, but they also have to do it in the shadow of giant players and coaches who are not exactly reticernt about sharing their opinions about the nature of their calls.
Although Donaghy can serve his sentence and put the ordeal behind him, some believe that the problems for the NBA may be just beginning. In the cousrse of defending himself, Donaghy revealed that NBA officials told referees to go easy on calling technical fouls against certain star players, who fans wanted to see on the court, and to make calls that extended plyaoffs to seven games so as to boost income for the league. NBA commissioner David Stern has repeadtedly denied that corruption went beyond Donaghy, explaining that Donaghy fabricated the claims to create the appearnce that he was sharing information in the hope of getting a lighter sentence. Although the court announced that Donaghy’s claims of widespread game manipulation were unsubstantiated, the NBA recognizes the serious public relations nighmare it has on its hands.
Unless the game can be played with integrity on a level playing field, it has no future. To ensure the quality of officiating from now on,Commissioner Stern created a new position, senior vice president of referee operations, staffed by retired U.S. Army General Ronald Johnson. If you think being a referee on the court is stressful, imagine what it’s like to be in charge of all of them from behind a desk in a New York office.
